My A

I think I deserve an A in English class because within the term I had Romero I completed all the assignments he has told me to and did not miss one. Even though I had some mistakes on some of them I fixed them as he asked me to. For example assignments I completed were all of the Of Mice and Men work we had to do including the 3 essays and the test we had to create, the newspaper article we had to do for Native son, and the goodreads project.

So for the Of Mice and Men essays I did one for Motifs, which was about certain things like the corruption of women, which was one of my topics in this essay. I wrote about how women can do certain things to persuade a man so she can get her way and how women can also mess up a fraternity of brotherhood.

The newspaper article I did for Native Son I wrote it on the investigation of Mary Dalton the daughter of the rich Mr. Dalton. She was killed by Bigger Thomas the chauffer for their family who “supposedly” killed her by a mistake after she got drunk by smothering her.

And last our goodreads project which is a project where we sign up and put any books we ever read on there and how many books we got on there is how many points we get on that project. We also had to do a review on the book we read in English called “Native Son” and also two books of our choice.
As you can see I have completed every assignment for Mr. Romero English class which is actually a surprise because I haven’t done that in any class all year which would be the greatest reason to give me an A.

Of Mice and Men Test

1. What are some of the motives behind George killing Lennie?

*He thought it would be better for Lennie if he was dead because he wouldn't have to deal with getting in trouble for innocent things.

2. What was the turning point in the movie? Explain.

*When Lennie killed Curley's wife because before that happened Lennie was doing just fine and wasn't getting into much trouble and they wouldn't have been out to get him.

3. How do you think George felt when he killed Lennie?

*I think he felt very sad but relieved at the same time because he wouldn't have to run no more and Lennie wouldn't have to be picked on anymore.

4. Do you think that Slim felt sorry for what was going to happen to Lennie?

*Yes because he knew Lennie didn't know that he was going to hurt her.

5. If Lennie did not kill Curley's wife how do you thin the movie would have ended?

*They would have gotten their house with the farm and everyone would have been happy and Lennie would have probaly been the highest payed worker and would have brung alot money into their house.

6. How do you think Curley's wife was thinking when she was dying?

*She was probaly thinking i do not want to die and i haven't pursued my acting career yet but atleast i wont be lonely anymore.

7. Name a time where Lennie and Bigger Thomas situations are similar?

*Because they were both acused of a crime that they committed with out knowing that they were actually killing the person.

8. What question would you ask George if you had the chance?

*I would ask him why did he decide to kill Lennie instead of helping him run like he usually does.

9. Do you think Lennie death was for the better or worse?

*I believe his death was for the better because now he would not have to live is life as a person George just brings along because he feels bad for him and he would no longer be made fun of.

10. Every night before they went to bed what would Lennie ask George to do?

* He would ask him to tell him the story about how their lives would be if they had they own little house.

Motifs of mice of men

Motifs of mice and men there are alot of motifs in of mice and men like strength and weakness, corrupting powers of women, and loneliness and companionship just to name a few. The one im going to talk about is The corrupting powers of women that can cause men to do some crazy things in life.

In todays life women can be very convincing in many ways to name a couple there is causing problems between 2 men even though its her fault, getting free things just for flirting might cause a man his job and etc. In the movie Mice and men curley's wife is a threat to all the men that work there because she flirts every chance she gets and that can get them into big trouble. She's the bosses son wife but eventhough she married she doesnt care she see's it as getting the attention she needs from other men because she doesnt get it from her own husband. That cause her to use her looks as an advantage to get what she want from who she wants.

Being a women is a very powerful thing and we use that to get what we want no matter what the circumstances may be, wether its braking up a happy home to getting into a rich lifestyle. As you can see The corrupting powers of women is a very common thing in our everyday life and even in a fantasy world.

Themes of mice and men

The book of mice and men is pretty much boring, but the movie is very much interesting which was the good part about actually studying Of mice and men. There were many themes that were in the movie. The theme i chose to talk about is Fraternity of brotherhood which is pretty much a theme in the real world.

Fraternity of brotherhood, this theme is very common in the real world where as though there would be a real tight bond between a group of boys or maybe just two. Where they feel they can trust each other with any and everything. But in of mice and men the fraternity of brotherhood is not as tight as it is in the real world. Its all about betrayal and lies(which happens very often for example, when Lennie kills Curley's wife by a mistake no matter how close everyone were they still was gonna kill Lennie if it was the last thing they did. Even though most of them knew he never does anything on purpose, everyone knew how sweet and nice he was and he would never hurt anyone unless he had reason to do so or unless George told him it was okay. With George knowing everything about him and knew Lennie longer than he knew anyone and how he truly is inside and out, he still betrayed him by not helping him escape but by killing him instead even though they considered each other as family.

Now that I have explained my point to why i think Fraternity of brotherhood is the most common theme in the book and in the real world  because its not all it is cracked up to be. The meaning of Fraternity of brotherhood does not portray in the real world or the movie. No matter how tight you are with somebody in a Fraternity they will always betray you one way or another.

Symbols of mice and men

There are many symbols in the movie and story Of Mice and men. I chose The farm as a symbol for 2 reasons theres success, and promised land.

The reason i think there is success is because no matter what kind of person you are you will always have success on the farm for all the work you put into it. Take Lennie for example he was one of their best workers. No matter how handicapped he was many men respected him and even though he mesed up more than once he was still very succesful at the farm and was very nice to everybody nomatter who they were.
The farm is promised land because everyone there have a place to eat and sleep not depending on who you are or what work you do on the farm. If you are a part of the farm then no matter how long you work there or have ben there that land or the bed you sleep on would never be taken from you. Just like Candy he is the oldest person on the farm and has been working there every since he was young and even though he cant do much work on the farm anymore he still is able to live there and eat there like its his own home. Also Crooks he is the only African American on the farm. He doesnt do anything much other than keep the stable and horses together they can easily get rid of him and hire one of the workers but since he's there he has everything he had when he first got there.

In conclusion as you can see the farm is one of the most related symbols in the story and movie because there are plenty of examlpes to support that no matter what they are.

Service learning 4/25/08

This week in service learning we talked about possible options about what we could do and talked about what could be the start of people being homeless. Then we went to the Federal Reserve bank and found out about money or the things we didn't know about money. This week we are planning on finding possible options what we are actually going to do as our actual project.

empire of the sun

In the movie Empire of the Sun the character Jamie changed so much throughout the movie you would've never thought he was the same person except he was still annoying but he learned to survive on his own. In the begining of the movie he was a rich snotty nose boy who thought he could talk down to anybody that was below him. But something happened where as though he got seperated from his mother and father when the war started. He had to learn how to make it on his own without the help of others. In the middle of the movie you would see he has changed a lot he makes a living by trading with people for certain things. He also has made families everywhere he went and someone he was close to named Basie changed his name to Jim so thats what they called him. By the end of the movie he has improved so much as a person he wasn't selfish no more he learned how to share with others and helped people who needed help even if he needed help him self.

In the begining of the movie he was very stuck up and pretty much did what ever he wanted. Like in one part in the beggining of the movie he was riding his bike around his yard and even though his parents told him to stop it he didnt listen  he just kept going and his parents did nothing to disipline him. He also was obsessed with planes and as the war was about to start so him and his family stayed in a hotel and while they were there the war started and thats when Jamie got seperated from his mother and father.

Towards the middle of the movie he started being something like a hustler when he met the Man Bassie and since this was Bassie Lifestyle he started to get used  to it and it became how he lived. When the war started to get very bad Everybody who have once lived in China had to live in some sort of camp, and that's where Jamie made his family at. He also helped old and sick people by trading to get them certain things that they needed and he always got their food since people were to sick or old to rush to get it since it was first come first serve. So by this part of the movie his name was Jim which was the name Bassie gave him.

As you get near the end of the movie it starts to show you how much he has changed as a person and started to think of other people before he thought of hisself which was never an option for him in the begining. He even became more mature in many ways. Even though he didnt remember his mother or father he knew certain things about both of them

My walking trip with Ms.Thompson

On our trip we went to Washington square we discussed geometry and shapes thats there, we also talked about service learning and some possibilities of what we can do in the park. Then afterwards we went to the Curtis Center to just see the mural. But while we was there we looked up certain things we can do for service learning and we talked to people about helping out there. We checked out the daycare they have in there, the fitness center and many other things. This trip was a great experience!

question(bloom taxonomy)

Application
What questions would you ask Bigger Thomas, if you had the chance to meet him? If i had to meet Bigger Thomas i would ask him: why did u try to rape Mary Dalton?, and what caused you to kill a woman who was kind to you?

Analysis
What are some problems between bigger and his mother?
some problems between bigger and his mother are bigger's mom wants him to get a job when he doesn't want to. Also Bigger's mom treats him worse then his brother and sister.

Synthesis
Why dont you devise your own way to deal with what happened in mary room, right before bigger killed her?
To deal with what had happened in mary's room i would've just told somewhat the truth, the way i would've told somewhat the truth is when mrs.dalton came into the room i would've said ma'am, Miss.Dalton is drunk and she wasn't able to come up the stairs on her own so i helped her to her room and i would've dealt with the repercussions. In conclusion in dealing with what happened in Mary's room before i killed her bigger and i differ.

Evaluation
How would you feel if you were in Bigger's position, a young poor black man killing a young rich white woman?
If i was in bigger position i would've just quit my job lied and said that the whole investigation was to much for me then i would've skipped far away from town and never came back and found work somewhere else.

Knowledge
Describe what happened at the pool house between Bigger and Gus the second time.
Bigger and Gus got into a fight. Bigger threatened Gus by putting a knife to his kneck. They faught because Bigger was afraid of robbing Old Blum.

news paper article for english

A tragedy happened as they found Mr. Dalton daughter Mary Dalton in their home furnace, but before they found her she has been missing for 3 days. In the begining of this investigation they only had one leading suspect who was  their chauffer Bigger Thomas  who was at the time her designated driver police had believed that he had something to do with it because he was the last person to see her the night she went missing their first thought were he couldve took advantage of her because she was drunk. But bigger was soon let off the hook because as the investigation went on they found another suspect which is Jan Erlone who was believed to have been in a relationship with her. They found her body 3 days after she went missing burning inside a furnace. The cops then put Jan Erlone in jail. But then the abductors demanded 10,000 dollars in a ransom note. The question is would he still pay the ransom even though they already found her body in their own furnace with her head cut off or maybe Mr. Dalton havent found out about that yet in this point of the investigation. The Dalton family immediately demanded for the release of Jan Erlone. Further into their investigation they have noticed Bigger Thomas their negro chauffer  has disappered and the police and now that they have found Mary body they think it has something to do with him killing her and them finding her bones. This investigation just got deeper check into my column next week to find out the final acts of this very long investigation.

English chapter analysis

Chapter 1 pg.3-8
This chapter is about bigger trying to kill a rat and when he finally kills the rat he teases his sister and she fainted. He then got into an argument with his mother.
Analysis- i think he wrote this chapter because it shows how favoritism between a mother and her child and how it can affect a child.

Chapter 2 pg.9-12
This chapter is about bigger having a conflict with his mother about him taking a job and about his mother always thinking down on him.
Analysis- I think he wrote this chapter because it signifies how hard his mother is on him to find a job so they can survive and he can do something with himself.

Reflection on last year service learning

Last year in service learning I learned how to be more of a people person and actually see first hand how much some of the students were really struggling and everything they needed help with were mainly basic. It was like the students needed more attention then they were getting from their actual teachers at school. But it was fun actually working with the students, helping them and having them look up to you and making new friends.

NHD reflection

This year for NHD I chose to do the conspiracies of 9/11. I learned so many things that i never knew about, this topic really help me expand my knowledge on the topic and on other topics as well. My success with this topic  was actually everything i learned during this process and actually doing this because this topic is a hard thing to cover. My failures were not actually adding everything we found out into our document and covering certain things we were supposed to cover and didn't that could've really made our topic stronger than it was and if we would've hit all the right spots in our topics we could've had a great chance in winning.
